Functional linguist, Ayumi Inako PhD
略歴
神戸女学院中高部、上智大学フランス語学科から同大学院言語学専攻に進学し、フランス語意味論の分野で修士号を取得後、日本語教師、教師養成、学習塾共同経営等を経て2004年より日本大学国際関係学部・短期大学部非常勤講師。英語、フランス語等の授業を歴任し、同大学の社会人講座では「思い出のあの曲で学ぶ英語」がシリーズとなりリピーターが続出した。
その傍ら2007年からは英語教育の分野で新たな学位を志し、オーストラリアのMacquarie Universityの通信課程に入学。ここで、ことばのものさしの基盤となる言語学理論、Systemic Functional Linguistics(SFL)に出会う。単位履修コースでは、成績上位に認められるGolden Key Honour Societyのmembership を授与される好成績で、2010年にMaster in Applied Linguistics (TESOL)を取得。2011年からはUniversity of Technology, Sydneyの博士課程でSFLの第一人者の一人であるA/P Susan Hoodに師事。はじめは大学の仕事と両立させていたが、勉学に集中すべく、2013年からシドニーに移り住んで2015年6月に博士論文を提出。2016年にUniversity of Technology, Sydney より博士号(Doctor of Philosophy)を授与された。
帰国後は、故郷である神戸市垂水区で両親の介護をこなしつつ、翻訳業、神戸市外国語大学や甲南大学の非常勤講師として、英語学からEnglish only のコミュニケーション授業まで多様なコースを担当。また、国内外の学会において研究論文・発表を行うだけでなく、研究者のためのオンライン勉強会を主宰するなど、研究者共同体でも活発な活動を行ってきた。

Ayumi Inako, PhD – Bio
Ayumi Inako graduated from Kobe College Junior and Senior High School and went on to Sophia University, majoring in French. She continued at the same university for graduate studies in linguistics, earning a Master’s degree in French Semantics. Following this, she worked as a Japanese language teacher, teacher trainer, and co-managed a private tutoring school. From 2004, she served as a part-time lecturer at Nihon University, teaching courses in English, French, and more. In the university’s adult education program, her series “Learn English Through Memorable Songs” became highly popular with returning students.
In parallel, from 2007 she pursued a new degree in English language education at Macquarie University, Australia (distance learning program). There, she discovered the theoretical foundation of Koto Mono, based on Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL). She completed her coursework with high distinction and was inducted into the Golden Key Honour Society. In 2010, she received a Master in Applied Linguistics (TESOL).
From 2011, she enrolled in the PhD program at the University of Technology, Sydney, studying under A/P Susan Hood, a leading expert in SFL. Initially balancing her doctoral studies with her university teaching, she relocated to Sydney in 2013 to focus fully on her research and submitted her doctoral thesis in June 2015. In 2016, she was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Technology, Sydney.
After returning to Japan, she cared for her parents in her hometown of Tarumi, Kobe, while continuing professional activities including translation, and part-time teaching at Kobe City University of Foreign Studies and Konan University, offering courses ranging from English linguistics to English-only communication classes. She has actively contributed to the research community through conference presentations, research publications, and online study sessions for researchers.
She is currently a Visiting Researcher and Part-time Lecturer at Kobe City University of Foreign Studies.

・言語研究の基本的な方法論の一つグロスづけ(注釈づけ)について、研究目的に即した方法論を提案しています
・日本語の敬語について、知識と共同体の交渉の観点から分析しています。最近は視点を歴史的変遷に広げ、話しことばを基本に据えた敬語の果たす機能を記述しています
言語研究の教育への応用
・言語学や教育社会学の理論を担当授業に活用しています
・サマリーライティング、Q&A(質疑応答)に注目した実践指導研究を行っています
